The heat is brewing and it’s that time of year when we’re all looking for what’s fashionable and that’s anything cool and refreshing! My kids love the idea of a slush drink and secretly I really think that it’s the icy cold refreshment combined with the brain freeze that makes them so irresistible. And, although we indulge once in a great while, I try to serve alternatives at home that at the very least include some form of fresh fruit in the mix. One blend that’s perfect for this warm weather and takes full advantage of our strawberry season is Strawberried Lemonade. We LOVE this drink and I think part of the appeal is that we only make it once in while. In fact, come to think of it, I pull out the recipe around strawberry season every year along with a few other recipes to share.
One of my favorite gadgets in the kitchen is the blender, it’s fashionable to use in every season, but summer is when those cold drinks are appreciated just a little bit more than the other nine months in the northeast. Here’s to cool and refreshing – CHEERS!
Strawberried Lemonade by Jodie Fitz

3 cups water
3 cups ice
1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon raspberry extract
1 tablespoon honey
In a pitcher, stir the lemonade concentrate and water together. Measure and pour one cup of lemonade to the blender followed by the ice, strawberries, vanilla extract and raspberry extract. Add the honey in last and blend all of the ingredients together and serve. It’s cool and refreshing!
Strawberried Lemonade is a deliciously sweet treat, but beware….it can pack a mean BRAIN FREEZE!
