Mozzarella & Tomato Party Snacking Fun!

Looking for some party food ideas that are kid friendly? Try these Mozzarella and Tomato flowers for a little hors d’oeuvres snacking fun!  They are so easy, which is always the best part.

Mozzarella and tomatoes

What do you need?

Sliced Mozzarella: I use the part-skim mozzarella and you can either slice it yourself or order it at the deli, just be certain to have them slice it closer to a ‘4’ so that it will hold it’s shape.  Typically there’s a cheese slicing guide available to view at the deli counter so that you can determine the best slice for you.

Grape Tomatoes: YUM, they’re fresh & deliciously sweet!

Candy/cake pop sticks: You can find these items at your local craft store and they come in varying lengths so you can create an entire garden of sizes if you’d like.

Flower fondant cutters: This is another item that can be found at your local craft store.  Typically you can purchase them in a packet that comes with three sizes of each shape.  I use these for cookie cutting, fondants shapes, cheese, fruit and even certain veggies…they’re a great find & with a coupon their very affordable.

What’s Next?

It’s so SIMPLE!!! Cut the cheese with the larger flower shape & save the scraps to snack on or use in anther recipe.  Cut the center out with the smallest fondant cutter.  Insert the tomato into the center.  CAREFULLY, slide the stick through the cheese and into the center of the tomato.

It’s ready to serve & if you’re looking for the easiest dip ever….

pesto

Purchase concentrated pesto sauce at the grocery store and mix it with LIGHT olive oil and use it for a little  cheese dunking fun!  I use 2 parts light olive oil to 1 part concentrated pesto sauce.

NOTE: you may have to adjust the amounts of olive oil depending on the brand of concentrated pesto that you use.

Looks like a great snack for kids, and adults :) I was imagining a basil leaf with it too! I like the flower cookie cutter idea for all sorts of different foods, we have star shapes that Izzy loves to have her bread, cheese and deli meats cut into.

Hi there – someone else suggested a basil leave too & I LOVE that addition :)

We love all of our mini cutters as well, the really do make great sandwich cutters…we call them our ‘homemade lunch-ables’ – enjoy & happy New Year!!!
