I absolutely LOVE smoothies (including cherry smoothies)! They were one of my favorite things to make as a child and as a young teen I had full license of the blender and loved every minute of it. When I was younger I made a ton of Apple-Banana Smoothies, but have since then tweaked my recipe for my own children.
We are pretty big fruit eaters and although we love our fruit fresh, we also love a good recipe that includes some of our favorites. When fresh fruit is in season we gobble it up and when it isn’t, we are thankful for all of the amazing fresh, frozen, no-sugar added options at the grocery store. Frozen strawberries, mixed berries, blueberries and a fruit salad have been available for years, but now there are so many more options; pitted cherries, mangoes, pineapple, etc.
I was thrilled last year when I found the pitted dark cherries become available because when these are in season, you will almost always find a bowl at our home, however, they don’t last very long
. So, finding this frozen treat I have taken my love for smoothies and combined it with our love for cherries and have created a couple of ‘thumbs up’ blends to share.
Cherry Smoothie (Option 1) by Jodie Fitz
1 cup ice
1 cup low fat/fat free milk
1 cup fresh, frozen, pitted cherries
6 oz. low fat vanilla yogurt
1 – 2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Put all of the ingredients into the blender and blend!
NOTE: My daughter says to serve it with a straw, because everything tastes better with as straw – lol
!
Honey: The amount of honey can vary depending on taste buds and the tartness of cherries. Simply mix with the lower amount, taste and add if needed.
Cherry Smoothie (Option 2) by Jodie Fitz
1 cup ice
1 cup low fat/fat free milk
1 cup fresh, frozen, pitted cherries
6 oz. low fat vanilla yogurt
1 – 2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Put all of the ingredients into the blender and blend!

Oh, that’s a flavour I’ve never tried in a smoothie. Cherries have been delicious that last few months here in Oz.
LOVE the cherries when they are in season here, but for now it’s fresh frozen that reminds us of the summer season
