Grocery Shopping list vs. app

Every week, like so many, I plan my meals, make my grocery shopping list & sift through a few unorganized coupons & occasionally forget that they were in my purse by time I load the bags into my car.  However it’s January & I have joined the ranks of millions of people who spend the New Year organizing, planning & attempting to streamline.

Do you coupon?  I’m not a faithful coupon user; although I secretly envy those who are able to manage hundreds of dollars of groceries for only a few and have caught an episode of extreme couponing or two out of shear curiosity.

The last several weeks I have had organized coupons & even created a shopping list or two to match so that I won’t forget I actually have them & it’s actually worked beautifully.  But the question after organizing became are you a list maker or an app user?  And, it turns out – I’m both!

Free printable shopping listIf you are a list maker; here’s a free printable shopping list to use, simply click here to print & shop!  It has a column for coupon organization.  However, if you’re an app user here’s my top pick so far:

I’m LOVING the Grocery IQ & it’s FREE!  It has an application for iPhone, iPad & the Android.  It’s extremely easy to use and since it’s actually powered by it has a couponing capability built right in, which means NO left behind cut-outs.  The coupon integration is so easy, when you make your shopping list it automatically lets you know if there are available coupons & it’s one simple click – no cutting & organizing.  However, that being said – if you are an extreme couponer, not EVERY coupon is available and you will probably want to coordinate both ways.

At the end of the day, I’m always going to be a list maker, but I have learned to love them on both paper and within apps.  However, I have to admit that there’s still this silly sense of accomplishment in being able to CROSS it OFF the list!  So, although I haven’t given up my pen & paper, this app has persuaded me & certainly is put to weekly use.

  1. There was a device once, awhile back, that I saw…where you could walk around your house and say what you needed it and it would write it out for you. I thought that was neat, but I didn’t want to spend the money on it. A phone app would be way more ideal. Right now, I am a list maker.

    1. Well – you are in luck, because if you use the iPhone it has voice command capability. I don’t know about android, but would assume it’s the same…

Check it out, there are many neat features!

    1. This app doesn’t pick up every coupon & you do have the print them once you are done assembling, but it matches coupons through w the items that are on your list, which is a cool feature! It’s amazing the many different directions you can coupon?!?!?

Thanks for stopping & linking up! I’ve linked back & hope you have an awesome afternoon!

  5. I’m a list maker – but it does not matter whether it is on the phone or on the fridge, 95% of the time one or both is still on the kitchen table while I am standing in the grocery store aisle. I’m hoping there is an app for that! 🙂 thanks so much for sharing on Busy Monday!

    1. LOL – have soooooo left my list behind a million times myself 🙂 … the app has helped me with that, but not when I have both going — ha ha!
