Gluten Free Chickpea Burger Recipe
Have you had a chickpea burger yet? If you have, or if you haven’t, this recipe is worth a try!
These seasoned chickpea burgers are super easy to make and absolutely delicious. They are filled with all kinds of good flavor including; fresh sweet onions, fresh chopped cilantro, onion powder, garlic powder, turmeric, paprika and a little sea salt.
I make this particular recipe gluten free, using seasoned gluten free bread crumbs to help bring everything together before forming them into burger patties.
This recipe is great to have on hand for an emergency dinner plan, but it’s definitely worthy of the regular meal planning process too. We all need an arsenal of recipes that we can rely on when initial dinner plans fall apart; it’s happened to me on many occasions and will happen again.
Here’s the recipe to mash, season and cook to try….
- 2 - 14.5 oz. cans chickpeas
- 1/2 cup sweet onion, finely diced
- 3/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup seasoned gluten free bread crumbs
- canola oil
Drain and rinse the two cans of chickpeas in a colander. Place the prepped chickpeas into a bowl and mash them using a potato masher leaving some large chickpeas in the mix.
Add in the finely diced onion and fresh cilantro to the partially mashed chickpeas.
Add in the turmeric, onion powder, seas salt, garlic powder and paprika. Stir everything together until the spices are evenly distributed.
Add the eggs and breadcrumbs and stir well.
Form the mixture into burger patties; it should make 7-8.
Coat a nonstick frying pan with a light layer of canola oil. Heat the oil and the pan over medium heat before adding the patties to the pan. Cook the chickpea burgers over low to medium heat with the cover on, until one side is toasted brown. Once one side is cooked, flip the burgers and cook the other side with the cover on.
Serving: You can serve this on your favorite bun; gluten free or regular. Or, you can use a lettuce bun. I like the butter lettuce when I’m serving this chickpea burger recipe.
Topping it Off: When I top off these chickpea burgers I like to use a simple tahini sauce.
Side Dish Love: These tasty burgers go with a lot of great side dishes. I especially like a homemade, seasoned vegetable medley with a combination of zucchini, carrots, red bell pepper and sweet onions. YUM, YUM!
