A couple of weekends ago, when the weather was FANTASTIC, we did this very last minute call to a few friends and had a throw together mini Fall Fest. We kept it simple and it turned out to be a blast…
I grabbed pumpkins for $1.25…can’t beat the price….and set up a pumpkin painting table with paints and brushes I’ve collected over the years from my past life in children’s programming.
I grabbed a Halloween table cover for only $1 so that we could simply wrap up everything that was getting tossed at the end and make for an easy clean up. And, if you look closely at the table, you will see that we used saved egg cartons for the paints.
My friend Laura brought a gourd race for the kids with spoons (just like the old fashioned egg race). THEY LOVED the simplicity and the fun of the event. Better yet, the gourd’s were only 25 cents each & she had the spoons.
Race 1 = Relay style balancing the egg on the spoon back and forth from point A to point B. But, if you dropped it you had to scoop it…no hands allowed!
Race 2 = Relay style, but the gourd was on the ground & you had to hit it with the spoon to Point A going forward and to Point B, between your legs going backwards.
The adults had a great time watching the kids & so, I thought it would be fun for the kids to watch the adults. I grabbed the dad’s…handed out burlap sacks & we watched them hop (in hysterics – meaning the kids & moms) from Point A to Point B.
Shhh…we won’t tell them I included this photo (just couldn’t help myself!!!). But, the kids thought it was AWESOME & who do you think was climbing into the sacks next????
But, I wasn’t quite done….I then put the couples to the challenge. Three-legged races with one spouse blind folded…
Let’s just say, it was mildly dangerous…hysterical, but dangerous! And, yes…then the kids were off with the tree-legged races by themselves. Everyone played along & laughter is a really good thing!
Good Old Fashioned Fun Lives on….
