Onion Burgers on the Grill
Mmmm….grill season is one of my favorite seasons. It’s such a short season in the northeast and grilling adds such a unique flavor to everything you cook. Burgers are everyone’s all time summer grill ‘go to’ for parties, gatherings, picnics and weekly dinners. Sometimes we just grill plain burger patties seasoned with salt and pepper, but more often than not, we make onion burgers.
They aren’t overpowering, but seasoned with just the right amount of flavor that makes it mouthwatering and scrumptious!
Here is my onion burger recipe in a printable format for your convenience;
- 1 1/2 pounds of 93% lean ground beef
- 1/2 of a Vidalia onion, large
- 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground dried mustard
Peel and cut the onion into large pieces just enough to fit into a mini food chopper or food processor. Using the pulsate feature, chop the onions into small pieces. Note: You can finely dice the onion by hand if preferred.
Place the ground beef into a glass bowl. Add the onion, any juice from the food processor, onion powder, sea salt, garlic powder, black pepper and dry mustard to the bowl.
Work all of the ingredients together until they are evenly distributed.
Form the seasoned ground beef into burger patties and grill until they are cooked to your standards; rare, medium or well.
Toppings: Onion burgers are tasty with all of your favorites; tomato, lettuce, red onion, vidalia onions, pickles, ketchup, mayo or mustard. They are extra delicious with American cheese or white cheddar.
The Bun: These burgers are great served in a traditional bun, my husband loves a sesame topped kaiser roll. I often go with the ‘no roll’ or lettuce wrap option personally. However, if I do go for the bread, my pick is a multigrain sandwich round or FlatOut Fold-it.
The sides: These burgers are filling, especially if you make them as big as I do (lol). So, I love veggies in the form of a fresh salad or corn on the cob. I also love a fruit salad, but any traditional summer salads are equally delish like macaroni, pasta, potato.
More on the Grill: Check out my Chicken Parm Burgers. They are made with ground chicken = a family favorite!
