Oven roasted broccoli is easy to make. You can pop it in the oven while you prep other food. It’s a delicious way to serve veggies for gatherings and entertaining.
Oven Roasted Broccoli Side Dish
I used to steam my broccoli until I ate oven roasted broccoli; I rarely steam any more. Steaming this cruciferous vegetable can be delicious, don’t get me wrong, but the seasoned flavor when you roast it delivers a whole different bite.
When I season my broccoli, I cook like my grandmother! My grandmother, 100% Italian, didn’t measure; which is why you can’t duplicate her handwritten recipes. However, I have inherited her cooking techniques of taste and make. It was a challenge for me to slow down and start recording my measurements. There was a time, I even questioned if I could duplicate my own creations (lol).
We enjoy oven roasted broccoli throughout the year, it’s a scrumptious side dish. But, on holidays, we add my grandmother’s cheese sauce.
It’s a family favorite and my family says it’s not the holidays without broccoli and cream cheese sauce.
Tradition is tradition! And, my grandmother would be happy, because in an Italian family, it’s all about the food. And, it really does remind me of her every year.
Here’s my roasted broccoli spice combo along with my Grandmother’s Cream Cheese sauce…
Oven Roasted Broccoli
Ingredients
- Broccoli, 3 buds
- Olive oil
- Sea salt
- Onion powder
- Garlic Powder
- Red Pepper Flakes
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 oz. cream cheese
- 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Wash the broccoli buds and cut them into florets.
Toss them in a bowl with a light layer of olive oil, until they are coated.
Spread them onto a nonstick baking sheet. Sprinkle them with a generous coating of sea salt and onion powder along with a light coating of garlic powder and red pepper flakes.
Roast the broccoli for 25 - 30 minutes.
Serve as is or add the cheese sauce. About 10 - 15 minutes before the broccoli is finished roasting, melt the butter over low heat in a pan small saucepan. Add the 4 ounces of cream cheese and stir until that begins to melt. Add in the milk, continuing to stir as the mixture becomes creamy and all comes together into a thick cheese sauce.
Add to the top of the broccoli before serving.
