Catching the Pokemon Go Craze in the Lunch Box

Pokemon Lunch Box Packing YUM

We have been busy at the Price Chopper Kids Cooking Club getting ready to share a few lunch box-packing bites. Chef Zef & Chef Chloe joined me in the kitchen to prepare three deliciously fun ways to keep lunch filled with creative yum! These recipes are easy & can be used for after school snacks and/or party bites.

Chef Zef helped me catch the Pokemon Craze to release for a lunchtime surprise. We used mini bagels to create Pokeballs and green peppers to make Metapods. Then we created a Sand Shrew inspired parfait & Pikachu inspired fruit stars for all kinds of energy. You can catch all of the how-to’s & mini recipes below the video.

Pokemon Lunch Fun with Jodie Fitz

Pokeball Bites

Mini Wheat Bagels
Price Chopper Pizza Sauce
Price Chopper shredded mozzarella cheese, part-skim
Price Chopper Olives
Mini turkey pepperoni (optional)

Cut the mini wheat bagel(s) in half. Place them with the flat surface facing up on a non-stick baking sheet. Spread a healthy layer of sauce on the top. Add the mozzarella on one half to create the top of the pokeball as white & the other half as red. Finely chop the olives to create a belt look that separates the white half from the red half & add one slice of olive in the center to complete your pokeball. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 – 10 minutes.

Optional: you can add cheese on the entire top of the bagel & cover the red half with tiny turkey pepperonis to create the red half of the ball.

Sand Shrew Scoop:

6 oz. Price Chopper Greek Yogurt, plain
2 tablespoons Price Chopper honey
½ teaspoon Price Chopper vanilla
2 Price Chopper graham crackers
Fruit (optional)

Stir the yogurt, honey & yogurt together. Place the graham crackers into a mini chopper & grind until they look like sand. Create a parfait in a travel container layering the yogurt mixture & the graham cracker sand.

Add it in: You can add finely chopped fruit to the yogurt mixture if desired.

Metapod Snacks:

Green Peppers
Price Chopper Cream cheese
Price Chopper Olives

Search for a Pokemon metapod so that you can see the shape of this creature; it’s like a thick kite shape & easy to create. Slice the pepper sides off to create four large pieces of green pepper, discard the seeds. Cut the green pepper pieces with clean kitchen scissors into the shape of the metapod to make a healthy, but fun snack. Add a tiny bit of cream cheese to act as food glue where you want to place the eye & use a piece of cut olive to serve as an edible eye.

Pikachu inspired Fruit Stars:

Price Chopper Cinnamon

Wash & slice the apple(s). Using a small star cookie cutter or fondant cutter, cut the apple slices into star shapes & sprinkle with cinnamon
