I am not quite certain where November just went? And, I certainly don’t know how the Thanksgiving weekend just flew by so quickly. I also hate to admit that although I started a bit of shopping, I haven’t packed away the fall decor, nor have I pulled out the Christmas boxes to start decorating, but inevitably it will be on the ‘to do’ list this week. What is happening? The annual Holiday Lights in the Park Extravaganza & I am very excited that Price Chopper will be featuring both the Price Chopper Kids Cooking Club & my No-Bake Reindeer Food Recipe that’s fun for kids to make!
Santa loves his treats, but so do the reindeer & this No-Bake Reindeer Food recipe is perfect for adding a little holiday magic while spending time together. It’s, easy and eco-friendly and filled with festive fun for the entire family. In fact, we have made this recipe & have served it up to classmates & friends over the years in our hand dandy reindeer food holders. You can follow the directions to make this inexpensive, but adorable craft by clicking here. But, before you do, don’t forget to grab the reindeer food recipe below.
Reindeer Food by Jodie Fitz
¼ cup Clear Value puffed wheat cereal
¼ cup Clear Value puffed rice cereal
Red and green food coloring
A dash of holiday cheer!
3 snap and seal sandwich bags
Place the puffed wheat cereal into a snap and seal sandwich bag. Add in approximately 7 – 10 drops of green food coloring into the bag. Seal it up, and rub & shake until the food coloring has been distributed on to the cereal. In a separate bag, repeat the process with the puffed rice cereal using the red food coloring.
In an unused snap and seal bag pour the two different colored cereals in to the bag and shake so that the colored cereals are mixed together.
At the Price Chopper Kid Cooking Club, in addition to holiday colors, we believe that the reindeer love a dash of holiday cheer. You can add holiday cheer by;
- sprinkling in peppermint sugar found in the baking aisle of Price Chopper,
- crushing a candy cane and adding it in to the mixture,
- or, by crushing peppermint candies found in the candy aisle of Price Chopper.
All of the ingredients are edible, bio-degradable and friendly to all critters that might find the reindeer food. To learn how to make a Reindeer Food Holder out of a paper bag visit my Kids Fun 101 page.
Note to Parents: The magic is found in how the reindeer food disappears on Christmas Eve.
