I am re-posting the kid-friendly dinner fun, because it’s almost Chinese New Year! What does this recipe have to do with Chinese New Year? It’s the year of the snake!

Last week my daughter came home with a note in her agenda that said, Eat Snake for Dinner! She said the teacher was being silly. Or, was it her being silly? Regardless, I thought I’d have a little fun with the note and surprise her by serving up my Slithering Snake Dinner Recipe. I used to make it once in a while when the boys were young, just for fun, and to find a way to introduce them to ground turkey. So, in the spirit of the Eat Snake for Dinner note, here’s an opportunity to take the ordinary dinner table and turn it into extraordinary family fun.
P.S. This is a GREAT serve for a family movie night with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!
Jodie Fitz’s Slithering Snake Dinner
1 pound ground turkey
1 teaspoon McCormmick poultry seasoning
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon McCormmick Montreal Chicken Grill seasoning
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped
1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced
fillo dough sheets (approx. 9)*
1 tablespoon butter
(optional: 2 peppercorns & 1 baby carrot)
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.
Mix the McCormmick seasonings, salt, pepper, onion, garlic powder, spinach and red bell pepper together thoroughly until all of the spices and vegetables are evenly distributed throughout the meat.
On a flat surface lay approximately three fillo sheets directly on top of each other. Then place another layer of three fillo sheets over lapping the edges of the first layer by three or four inches and repeat one more time so that you have a long rectangle of fillo. I use approximately 9 sheets all together. Place the meat narrowly down the center of the rectangle. Wrap the fillo’s around the meat and tuck in the two ends. Mold the neck area and flip it so that the seam is facing downward on the pan. Place the peppercorns as eyes and cut the carrot to resemble a tongue and put it into place. Baste the outer layer of the snake (fillo dough) with 1 tablespoon of melted butter. Bake the snake for 30-40 minutes.

Love this idea Jodie. Now to show it to TechyDad. I wonder if this just may be the thing to get our little guy to eat some ground turkey. Of course, if we play it up with snakes and related books/movies he will potentially try it. Thank you for sharing.
Hi there! This & the volcanoes I have to re-post were the only two recipes that allowed me to introduce ground turkey to my boys when they were young. Fingers crossed it works for you 🙂 Enjoy!
What fun!
:)! The appearance was a BIG hit the first time I served it. I don’t make it often, but once in awhile it slithers it’s way to the center of the table…

Seriously, what house w/kids would not find this an awesome dinner…especially our house that’s full of boys. 😉
Thanks for sharing. I’m visiting from the Linkin’ w/the Ladies hop.
I hope those boys love it!!! The initial reason I made it was to get my guys to eat ground turkey, but then it resurfaced with a Harry Potter movie night & now it’s resurrecting for Chinese New Year – lol! So, I guess it’s a re-purposed recipe…
